Tips to Make Money Online By Becoming a Virtual Assistant

Becoming a Virtual Assistant

Nowadays, almost everybody wants to make money online, but why so? The most basic explanation to this is that the Internet serves as a platform for you to work for different people from different countries, and without leaving your home. You receive work through e-mails, and if you’re good at getting the job done quickly and with quality, you’ll be cashing in payments from different clients that need your skills.

If you can work efficiently in an office, what’s stopping you from making money online by working as efficiently in your own home? You’ll be doing the same thing, for more people, and you can even choose when you want to work. If you have skills fit for office work, why not find some work and make money online? Need help? Read on.

What Does Being A Virtual Assistant Mean?

Well, by definition, a “VA” is an entrepreneur who provides professional and paid assistance to clients from a home office. This means that if you’re a VA, your work can range from managing something for your client, solving problems for your client, and sometimes even give social assistance to your client. Simply put, it’s like being an all-around secretary for a client, but the best part is that you make money online. You don’t have to pass papers to a client – all you need is to attach a file to an e-mail and send it to a client and by doing so, be making money online after the process.

What Skills Do You Need To Begin?

Well different VA’s have different skills, and it wouldn’t hurt if you don’t have all of them. You don’t have to be afraid that you can’t make money online by being a VA with just a few skills. In fact, all you need to attract a client is to prove that you can demonstrate that you have real experience in an area. For instance, if your client needs research materials for a project, then you’ll have to be a good researcher, in the same manner, if your client needs someone that can write several topics on short intervals, then you’ll have to be a good writer. Your skills will be your keys making money online.

How Do You Find Work?

If you’re a beginner, the first thing you have to do is to visit at least one of the many online job sites that invite freelancers to sign up and look for work. Of course, if you’re serious about making money online, you’ll have to be sure that the site you will sign up in is reliable and has good reputation. You do not want to be scammed and work a few hours for no pay. Also, you have to add persistence to your mindset. If one site doesn’t work for you, sign up for more. More clients will always be good for your business, and this will also obviously help you make money online.

Are you ready to become a VA? It will be a tiring job with more clients, but will be rewarding just as much. Always remember not to rush things, and to relax and enjoy, as you are working at home. But keep your work efficient and worth the pay.

Are You the Friend Who Never Shuts Up?

I was becoming that person on social media

Yes, I was becoming a Joel Horneck on social media. I was getting too absorbed in my own stuff, only caring about how many people viewed my posts and shared them with others. Scheduling posts on Facebook and Twitter, and not even looking at the timeline to see what other people were sharing.

Meanwhile, I was missing out on all the fantastic content that others were posting, and also missing out on developing relationships with these like-minded content creators.
Communication is 50% listening, 50% talking

The number one tip in the Social Media Examiner article “6 ways to become likeable with social media” is to “listen and never stop listening”.

Everyone wants to be heard, including your customers and clients. Listening to people is the best way to make them feel important, and it’s also the best way to build their trust in you. Don’t think this just applies to individuals; businesses can be good listeners as well, and can reap just as many rewards—potentially many more.
If it’s good enough for social media success stories, it’s good enough for you

How do you think people get successful on social media? I can assure you it’s not by constantly talking down to their followers.

One thing I’ve noticed with the majority of my favorite content creators on social media is that regardless of the size of their followings, they take the time to thank you or reply when you share their posts or leave a comment. The really good ones even personalize the experience by taking the time to check out your site and comment about it.

Don’t think they’ve got some magical advantage which allows them to engage better than you—there are only 24 hours in their days as well. Think of it this way: if you’re really efficient, you could check out someone’s site and comment about it in less than two minutes. I know those minutes add up pretty quickly, but if it creates a long term fan/subscriber/client/customer, isn’t it worth it?

Show that you’re listening

Reacting when people comment on or share your work is only a start, though. You should be aiming to be proactive.

Take some time each day to check out other peoples’ work, leave a comment, and share it to show them how valuable you found it. Not only will you make them feel good about what they’ve done and motivate them to do more; there’s a fair chance they’ll return the favor at some point down the track. Some simple ways to be proactive and show that you’re listening include:
Take some time out each day to retweet other peoples’ tweets. Be authentic, though: don’t just retweet for the sake of it. Retweet the stuff you like and think will be valuable to your audience.
Subscribe to peoples’ blogs and comment as often as you can.
Promote other peoples’ content by sharing with your audience on networks like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Create conversations and engage others by replying to their tweets, commenting on Facebook posts, etc.

If doing these things doesn’t come naturally, it might help to create a list. Set yourself a number of retweets and comments that you’ll make each day, and eventually it will become second nature.

Start now

How can you start doing it right away? Leave a comment on this post, or share it! Obviously that’s what I want you to do, but it’s also a good way to see if I’m practicing what I preach. Will I reply to your comment? Will I thank you for sharing it? Let’s find out

Why Blogging is the New Internet Marketing Tool

New Internet Marketing Tool

Blogging used to be a way to comment an existing webpage, an opportunity for visitors and readers to react or voice out one’s opinion on the said page. What started as a single-sentence commentary has evolved into pages of personal take on just about anything and everything under the sun. As it continues to move forward, online advertising has tapped into the blog’s potential.

Here are “5 reasons why you should use blogging as an Internet marketing tool.
Blogging is simple.

The simplest way to get your piece on the net is through blogging. No skills are necessary… an average adult can read and type, or at least click a mouse. It’s like having a virtual piece of paper and you just write your ideas, experiences, new products, and hope that the truth behind your articles comes out and entice your reader to also try your product. If you have a PC and an Internet connection (who doesn’t?) then you can blog and advertise.

Blogging is authentic

In this day and age where advertising saturate our lives, we question the credibility of promoters’ claims. However, in blogs, real people share their real-life experiences, unscathed by paid advertising. Reading blogs about first-hand product use is like talking to people about their first-hand experience. You definitely want to buy a tried and tested product.
Blogging is free

Because blogging is yet to be proven as a mainstream online advertising media, most sites see it as something to augment current marketing tools and thus offer it for free. Any opportunity for free webtime is definitely a bonus especially to businesses that are starting up. Needless to say, paid blog pages can generate more income for your seriously growing business.

Blogging builds credibility

As you get more and more into writing your experiences on a particular product or industry, your readers come to realize that they can depend on your posts for their own information needs. As such, you become an expert on it; as a consequence, more readers visit your site and more bloggers link to your blogs. As companies and professional organizations notice the growth of your readership base, they may soon get in touch with you for advertising on your blog page, or make you an affiliate, which pays for every referral generated from your blog site.

Blogging builds your market

Unless you are a Hollywood star, chances are, only your Mom reads your posts. Mom has a lot of friends, so she lets her friends know how interesting your blog site is. But you need not depend on Mom to increase your readership base.

Look into the following ways to build your market through blogging:

By using your e-mail.

Today, blogging is overcoming the e-mail’s popularity in quickly and effectively reaching and expanding a market. In this age of speed and quick access, logging in and downloading e-mail is simply taking longer than clicking into a blog site. Let them explore your site by using a short e-mail message as teaser to your blog site. If your e-mail is on an entirely different subject, use your e-mail signature to give a link to the site.

By using subscription.
An easy way to get your readers e-mail is to give them an opportunity to subscribe to your blogsite. Keep some exclusive information for your subscribers to entice readers to subscribe and give their e-mail address. Just be responsible in using their e-mail address, as the last thing you want is a comment on your blog that you are a spammer.

By understanding your readers.

Conduct a simple survey for your readers to understand their profile and advertising preferences. Ask consumers to give you feedback on a post, an ad link, or a trial that you shared. In this way, it is like interviewing your readers without the commitment and intrusion of a face-to-face interview.

By joining a blog network

A network of blogs maybe a collection of blog sites that share the same industry, interest, readership base, payment mode, etc. Consumers find credibility and convenience in clicking one link to several real bloggers about a single subject. Clearly, more bloggers are better than one.

By using RSS.

RSS is the fastest growing technology on the Internet today. As such, having RSS feeds to your blog is definitely another means of generating awareness for your readership base. Having a variety of feeds can add interest to your blog site.

Optimal Linking for SEO: 10 Useful Tips for New blog

10 Useful Tips for New blog

Here are 10 very useful tips on links and linking architecture for anyone with an interest in SEO, and if you’re involved in marketing of any kind over the Internet, then that’s you.
Think About Who Links to You

You’ll already know the value of reputation when it comes to marketing your product or service. If sites that are associated with good quality products are clearly seen by users and search engines to link to your own then this will reflect well on you. Pay close attention to the number of .com and .co.uk sites that link to you, for example, and think carefully about ways in which you can encourage others to do likewise.

Think About Who You Link to

The same rules as before. Linking to good quality sites reflects well on your own. Keep up to date with innovations and developments and stay relevant with fresh links on your pages. Try to develop a balanced portfolio of links on your site.
Avoid Broken Links

As part of ongoing site maintenance for SEO you should be aware of any links that are no longer in use and remove them from your site.

Think About Relevance

This is very important. Link to sites with a clear relevance to your own only. Search engines pay special attention to this, as do users, and every irrelevant link on your page is detrimental.
Internal Links

Think about internal links and whether your site is user friendly. Make the most of internal links and get some advice from SEO experts about ways to link internally that will benefit your site’s ranking.
Maps

Think about linking back to homepage and site maps. Make your site as easily navigable as possible. This will encourage users and benefit your site as search engines see these links when they probe it. A map is a useful way to introduce internal links and make the site easier to get around.

Link Building

Think about the use of exact match terms for link building. Build links using exactly matching anchor text. Remember though, don’t get carried away – an excess use of keywords can be as bad as a lack. Using terms you want to rank for and that summarise the topic referred to, in moderation, can strengthen the ratings of your site by search engines. Find a balance and use your senses. If you feel that you’ve gone overboard with repeated words or phrases in your internal links then you probably have.

Avoid Cloaking

Search engines are increasingly sophisticated at detecting ‘black hat’ or unscrupulous SEO techniques. While it may be tempting to improve your popularity on the net by attracting unwitting visitors to your site, be aware that techniques that accomplish this can get you into trouble. Users and search engines are alike in their approach to cloaking – they don’t accept or tolerate it. Stay within the boundaries to avoid problems.

Look at Where Your Competitors Link

This is legal and it can give you an advantage or at least level the playing field somewhat when it comes to links. Go to Yahoo and type in link: www.competitorsite.com to get access to useful tools for viewing your competition’s linking activity. Remember that knowledge is power.
Strategise

Have a solid strategy for linking to, from and within your site. Think before you link and use every intelligent strategy at your disposal. Getting advice from website optimization specialists can really help.

To conclude, it’s hoped that some important considerations about link building were highlighted for you here in our list. Some areas were only touched upon, and in an environment such as computing where change is a constant, it pays to stay abreast of developments. Remember that if you’re short on time, search engine optimisation specialists are available for SEO and improving your ranking and your profits.

Nazir Ahamed Guide to Writing Popular Blog Posts

Nazir Ahamed Guide to Writing

Do you wish you knew the secret to writing popular blog posts? You know, the posts that get over 200 comments, 20 backlinks, and hundreds of shares on social networking sites?

Over the past five years I’ve started two blogs. The first one became a Technorati top 100 site, and now I’m working on Quick Sprout.
Fortunately I’ve learned a few lessons about writing popular posts while running these two blogs, and now I want to share those lessons with you.

Use simple words

The first thing you’ll probably notice when you look at popular blog posts is they’re really easy to understand. And it doesn’t matter what the content is about.

Why is that? The reason they are easy to read is because the writer chose to write with simple words.

I always write my posts using 5th grade vocabulary, rather than writing like a highly educated person. See, I’d rather you be able to read and understand quickly what I wrote, than to appear like an educated person who uses big, complex words, and ends up confusing people.

The interesting thing is you will still look like an expert. Also, people are more likely to share a post that they think other people will understand. So use simple words, not fancy ones.
Use the word “you”

Really great blog posts sound like they were written just for you. Do you know why that is? It’s because the writer probably used the word “you” instead of “we” or “them.”

When I write like this, what I’m doing is trying to make you feel like it’s just you and me, as if we were sitting down at a café for a cup of coffee.

Yes, my blog has thousands of readers, but my posts come across much more personal when I pretend like I’m just writing for one person.

A neat trick to help you do this is to think of somebody you know and write your blog post as if you are writing it just for them. I know some writers who even keep a picture of a person above their screens to remind them that they are writing for just one person.
Write “how-to” posts

One of the things I learned about writing popular blog posts is that people want useful information.

That blog content that I wrote for the Technorati Top 100 blog wasn’t very good, even though it was ranked high, and I think it was because I wasn’t trying to offer a solution to people’s problems. I wasn’t showing them how to do stuff. In this post, I’m pretty sure you want to write posts that people like and share, so that the traffic to your blog grows. I want to help you solve that problem.

The template for writing a “how-to” post is simple. Just sit down and write out all of the steps involved in doing something in particular.

Let’s say you want to show your audience how to subscribe to your blog with an RSS reader. Your headings might be “Choose a Reader,” “Sign Up,” “Click on the RSS button,” and “Subscribe.” Under each heading you would give more information, explaining what to look for, the pros and cons, and pointing out issues that might be confusing.
Write detailed posts

When I first started writing Quick Sprout, I got frustrated with how slowly it was growing. It seemed like it was taking forever! I was writing good posts and getting some comments, but not enough to really make people want to share and link back.

At one point I decided to experiment and write a really long, detailed post. It took me some time to write and I was wondering if it was worth all the effort.

Well, you know what? It was!

People commented and shared that post a lot, and from that point on I decided I was only going to write long posts with tons of good, specific information.

If you think about it, people love long, detailed posts because so much of what is offered on other blogs is short and light on details. This is not to knock other blogs, but simply to point out that this is an opportunity for you to make yourself different than other bloggers.

Another way to make your posts detailed is to add statistics and graphs. It’s been shown that posts with images, stats and graphs will get way more links than the very same post without visual appeal!
Hook your readers

I really learned a lot about hooking your reader by reading blogs by Brian Clark, Darren Rowse and Leo Babauta.

These writers use some great tricks to compell readers to stop and read every word they write, which I think is something we all want to do, right?

The first rule of hooking readers is to write a great headline. Great headlines have four qualities. They are:

Unique: Unique headlines can only be used for your blog post, like this post I’m writing right now. It’s unique because there is only one Neil Patel!
Useful: A headline is useful when it promises practical information. The reason “how-to” guides are popular is because it gives answers to problems.
Ultra-specific: Adding numbers or stats to a headline makes it ultra-specific. My article, 6 Advanced Ways to Improve Your Search Rankings, is a good example of ultra-specific, since I used both a number and the word “advanced.”
Urgent: The best way to create urgency is to put some kind of deadline into your headline. “6 Days until the Stock Market Crashes” or “Your Last Chance to Get a Free Copy of My Book” are good examples.

The best headlines have three or four of these features in them. This formula is called the Four Us.

After the headline, you hook readers by writing a great first sentence. How do you do that? Asking questions works really well. So does making a crazy statement that simply can’t be true, but then you promise to show your readers that it is. The point is to write a first sentence that people can’t resist. Quotes also make good first sentences, as do statistics.

Next, your reader will probably skim your post, especially if it is long, looking at all of your sub-headlines. This is why your sub-headlines need to also hook the reader.

Readers should be able to scan your sub-headlines and get a summary of what the post is about. I like to write my sub-headlines like normal headlines, trying to use the Four Us I showed you above. That way, you read them and say, “I got to read that!”
Create a conversation

One of the most important parts of writing popular blog posts is writing like it’s a conversation.

Have you noticed all the questions I’ve been asking? Or all of the phrases I’ve italicized? I’ve done that on purpose. People forget that blogging is social media, and being social means knowing how to carry on a good conversation.

The way to do that when you’re actually talking to someone is to listen and ask the other person questions. It shows that person that you care about what they are thinking, and that it’s not all about you—because it’s not.

The same is true about a blog.

Creating a conversation also means you exchange words with each other after the blog post is done, usually in the comments, though some people prefer to email, which is fine.

If there isn’t a dialog then you’re talking to yourself, and that’s no fun. So at the end of your post, always ask people what they think and tell them to leave their thoughts in the comments.
Prove your points

It’s really important in your post to prove any claims that you make. For example, in the section where I said that graphs and stats in a post get more backlinks, I actually linked to another blog post that backed up what I was saying.

If you don’t do this, you’re likely to lose credibility and people won’t believe what you say.

But another benefit to proving your points by linking to other posts is that you are sharing with your audience another good source of information. And the chances are that author will probably link back to your blog at some point.

Show you are an authority

Lots of bloggers can get uncomfortable with this one because they feel like they’re tooting their own horn.

See, to show you’re an authority on a subject means you have to get other people or organizations to say that you are an authority. Then you point out that they said those things.

If you do that, it’s not bragging, but just pointing out the truth. Of course, it matters how you say it, so stay humble.

One way I show that I have the authority to speak on the subject of writing popular blog posts is by mentioning that my blog was a Technorati top-100 blog. It shows that someone else with lots of credibility recognized me as an expert.

Another way I could do this is by telling you how many readers Quick Sprout has. There must be a reason so many people like the blog, right?

I also mention that I’m a successful entrepreneur, which I can back up by telling you about the two companies I own. It’s not usually seen as bragging if you don’t force it, so look for ways that feel natural.

You’ll see blogs with “As Seen In” sections displaying the logos of important companies and media sources, like the Wall Street Journal, underneath. This is an endorsement—another way of showing you have authority.

Testimonials from readers and clients are also a form of authority. If you’re interested, I wrote a post on how to effectively use testimonials that explains more on this topic.
Care about your readers

One of the biggest lessons I learned from starting two blogs, and several companies, is that you have to care about people, and show them you care.

I love reading blogs where I can feel the writer’s concern for me. I try to do that on Quick Sprout, too. One obvious way to do this is by bringing attention to the people who have helped you be successful.

I’ve discovered that if truly care about people—including your readers—you will naturally try to write a popular blog post, because you are always looking for ways to write better. In other words, you’ll constantly try to learn new ways to improve your posts so you help more people. And that’s certainly a good recipe for success!]

Conclusion
There’s a lot of competition in the blogosphere, so it’s easy to get frustrated when your blog is not getting the attention it deserves.

Be patient and use the tips that I shared above. I’m certain that within time you’ll start writing popular blog posts on a frequent basis.

Blog SEO Using Keywords for Blog Optimization

Blog SEO Tips: Using Keywords for Blog Optimization

One of the most basic, yet highly effective things you need to consider when doing blog optimization is using keywords to indicate search engine spiders what your posts are about. The more relevant to the page’s content, the better the search engine ranking.
Keyword optimization is part of on-page SEO, which means that it is a part of the optimization you’ll make on your blog’s code.

What you should know right from the start is that keywords can give your blog posts a boost in rankings or get your blog out of the first and most important search results. It all comes down to how well you’re using them and how relevant they are to your content.

Rules of keyword optimization
Since you’re reading this, I have no doubt that you understand how important well-researched keywords are and that you’re willing to make better use of them. These are some of the most important things you need to consider:

Things to do

Consider using keywords relevant to your article;
If the keywords are somehow related to each other, that’s a plus (for example: internet marketing, online marketing, search engine marketing);
Use different keywords for different blog posts. In most cases, search engines will return two results from you blog at most, so having five or six posts optimized for the same set of keywords would be a waste of content;
Write your article first, but with the right keywords in mind, not the other way around;
Use your most important keyword(s) in the title tag. If you’re using a SEO plugin, you can set a different page title than that of your blog post;
Use those keywords in the META description too;
Use the keywords in the title of your blog post and preferably in the first phrase or paragraph of your article;
Edit the post slug (permalink) so that it contains the most important keyword and also try to keep it as short as possible;
Place the keyword(s) a few more times (don’t overdo it) throughout the article in a humanly natural order and context;
If there are other older relevant posts on your blog, try to create backlinks from them using the selected keywords as anchor text (same goes for external incoming links).

Things to avoid

Don’t target too many keywords. Use as many keywords as you feel that are relevant to your content which means they are present on the page and have value to a visitor. A list of 50 keywords means that most probably at least 40 of them are almost totally irrelevant;
Don’t use irrelevant keywords. If your post is about NASA’s recent trip to Mars, I don’t know how Demi Moore or Vi*gra would fit in the picture;
Using text formatting on some keywords in your content is OK. Bolding everything out is not;
Avoid duplicating keywords in your META tags;
Placing a list of comma separated keywords in your title tag and META description is a big NO. Write something natural and appealing to humans;
Avoid keyword stuffing. Don’t fill your blog post with keywords only to increase the keyword density. It is unnatural, provides a negative user experience and will probably get you penalized by search engines.

Conclusions

Some say that keywords don’t really matter when it comes to search engine rankings, and since everyone is entitled to an opinion, I will disagree with that. Same people say that their blogs or websites rank high even if they neglected keyword optimization. That is true, but I’d like to see how well they perform when they’ll be competing with a well optimized blog or website when similar factors are on the table, like: almost same age (possibly younger), number of indexed pages, number of backlinks etc.

Keyword optimization is part of a much bigger and complex process. Acting blind in front of it is like sticking your head in the sand, hoping that if you don’t see anyone, nobody will see you.

How to make money from your blog: 5 tips

Money from your blog

Many people who write blogs today simply want to share their opinion on something. But then there are the business-minded folks, who have found a way to use blogs, or Web logs, to bring in a little extra cash too.

If you're interested in taking it further — blogging for bucks, if you will — here are five strategies that could turn your blog into a moneymaker.

1. Sell advertising.
This is likely the most common means of leveraging a blog to generate income. If yours happens to become a well-known blog, or one that is well-received in a particular niche, it's always possible to sell ad space on your own. For Bing Blogs and services such as Google's AdSense or BlogAds, bloggers can establish ad programs. AdSense's — which lets you select several ads that are consistent with the content of your blog — pays you based on how many readers click on the ads for further information. Even better, it's free. BlogAds, on the other hand, hooks bloggers up with would-be advertisers and levies a commission in return for any ad placements that result. "The nice thing, too, is that the ads are relatively unobtrusive," says Scott Allen, co-author of The Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors and Closing Deals Online.

2. Help sell others' products. Here is another click-through opportunity. Affiliate programs enable your blog to serve as a conduit between readers and online sites offering various goods and services. One popular choice is Amazon.com. If, for instance, you offer book reviews or even just mention a book in passing in your blog, an affiliate program provides a means for your readers to click directly from your blog to Amazon to obtain further information about the book.

If they break out the checkbook or charge card, you get paid as well.

3. Solicit contributions. Not every blog-related income opportunity involves hawking goods or services. As Blanche DuBois said in A Streetcar Named Desire, consider relying on the kindness of strangers. Ask for contributions. If, for instance, your small-business blog supports a cause or issue in some fashion — say you repeatedly mention tax reform, health care or some other topic — you can always ask for reader support. Even if you've attracted a group of regular followers who simply enjoy reading what you have to say, they may be willing to underwrite their loyalty with a little financial help. Programs such as PayPal make it easy to establish a simple on-site contribution collection button. "There are lots of worthy 'cause' blogs that would qualify for donations from grateful members of the blog community," says Las Vegas communications consultant Ned Barnett.

4. Market your services in your blog. Many people associate blogs exclusively with a cyberspace-based soapbox — a place to shout your opinions and little more than that. Granted, blogs are an ideal venue to share your thoughts with others, but don't overlook their capacity to generate new business as well. When appropriate, work in references to what you do and, in turn, what you may be able to offer any would-be client or customer who may be reading your blog. That can spread your opinion and your business moxie at the same time."Instead of short commentaries that begin a dialogue with readers, as many blogs do, I write the equivalent of journal articles that demonstrate my abilities, strategies and perspectives on specific issues," Barnett says. "When it resonates, it means money. Since starting this approach, I have generated three new paying clients and brought in about $10,000 on revenue — directly attributable to specific blogs."

5. Use a blog to deepen your existing customer relations. Nor does any marketing material inserted in blog content have to be limited to bringing in completely new business. By using a blog to regularly communicate with existing clients as well as other readers, you can take advantage of the opportunity to fully inform them about everything your business does. That may expand your readers' understanding of the full scope of your products or services."My blog has helped existing clients determine the range of my skills and services," says Ted Demopoulos of Demopoulos Associates, a Durham, N.H. consulting and training concern. "One client who had only used me for training in the past was surprised at my range of expertise and is now using me for a consulting project. Another who only used me on technical projects is now considering me for a more business-oriented project."

5 Important Tips For Your Blogger Business Card

Are you a blogger? Do you do any networking? Have a business card?

You should.

It is part of your personal branding. Even if you have business cards for your day-job, you should have one for the purpose of promoting yourself in your online market.

I just ordered new business cards because I have a few conferences coming up. I designed them myself (even though I am certainly no graphics artist). But, it brought to mind a few thoughts that I considered when designing my card. And I wanted to pass them on to you.
Consistent Branding. If your blog has a logo, use it on your card.

Use a photo. Some people may disagree with me on this one, but I like to include my photo on my card. Why? A lot of people are visual and might not remember my name when they get back home. By putting my photo on the card, they have a much higher likelihood of remembering me when they are going through a stack of business cards later on. You might also notice that I used the same exact photo that I use here on my blog, on my Twitter profile, Facebook, etc. Why? Consistent branding. Visual continuity.
Move the old-school contact info to the back. My snail mail address and phone number are found on the BACK of my business card. Why clutter the front of the card with stuff most people won’t use? My target audience is primarily people who are also into blogging and social media. They are a lot more likely to email or tweet me than send me something in the mail.
Social Media. Along those same lines, I highly recommend you include your Twitter URL, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. You want people to connect with you and interact with you after meeting you, and that is done with social media.
Use the Back. Don’t forget all that real estate on the back of your business card. Why not use it? In my case, I used the logos and URLs to my major web sites. Some people also put in a benefit-oriented call to action on the back. Do something with it.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that blogging isn’t important enough to warrant a business card. As I’ve said a million times, if you want to make a business-level income with your blog, you have to treat your blog like a business. Well, a tiny little part of that is having something to offer when somebody asks “Do you have a card?”

7 Easy Steps for Getting Your Social Media Content Heard and Shared

Your Social Media Content

It’s no surprise that social media sites are jam-packed with content and data. Often times, this is because people have so many friends and followers on sites like Facebook and Twitter. So, how can you break through the content -clutter to get your friends, fans, and followers to really pay attention to what you’re saying? These tips are great for anyone looking to brand themselves and be heard: small businesses, large businesses, and even individuals trying to become digital influencers.

Note: For simplicity’s sake, I’m going to refer to anyone you are connected to on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) as a “follower” and anything you put onto social media (Wall Post, Status Update, Tweet, etc.) as a “post.”

Define your brand

The first step is to define what you are offering your followers. Do you want to be the one they come to for the latest sports news? The latest tips and tricks for blogging? The hippest fashion trends? The newest music you might not have heard before? This is often easy to figure out because it stems for your passions and interests.

Once you’ve discovered what your offering is, commit to it and stay committed. Your followers value your opinion about your offering and the moment you start to stray from what they expect of you, you’ll lose them.

Always monitor and respond

You’ll want to stay up to date on discussion that is generated on your posts. After some analysis, you’ll realize themes that are consistently popular. This should give you some ideas for future content to share and how to remain interesting to your followers.

Additionally, responding on an individual basis as best you can will show that you appreciate your followers and aren’t simply trying to gain something from them. If you’ve been on Twitter before you’ll that fans always love it when a celebrity Retweets or @Mentions them. It’s okay, go ahead and make their day!

Keep it interesting

Nothing gets skipped over quicker on social media than a boring, repetitive, and unoriginal post. There are so many ways to add some life to what you share. Rather than posting a paragraph about something, for example, post a link to another article with a short description of why your followers will find value in it. This makes you seem knowledgeable and simplifies the process for your followers.

Also, maybe you’ve noticed that you’ve posted a lot of articles or linked to other blogs lately. Try throwing in an interesting YouTube video to give some variety to your offering. Content based around current events is also a great way to stay interesting and relevant. Basically, try to surprise your followers to keep them coming back for more!

Valuable content

Along with keeping it interesting, your followers will appreciate highly valuable content. Just like you, your followers are trying to brand themselves to their audience. If you can position yourself as a credible resource, your followers can advertise who they are by sharing your posts. Not only can this ultimately build your audience, but it can also cement you as a reliable supplier of valuable content.

Consistency works

You’re in charge of finding the right amount of content that doesn’t irritate your followers or make them forget you. I’ve discovered a user on Twitter that is great for finding marketing content. But, in order to do so, I have to search through over twenty of their daily Tweets that link to other sites. Their Tweeting might be a little excessive. Find the happy medium between zero and annoyance.

Simplify

It isn’t a shocker that today people have short attention spans. Try visiting a college classroom and counting how many people aren’t on a computer, cell phone, or some other digital device while simultaneously “paying attention” in class.

The point I’m trying to make is that people prefer to read messages that are shore and concise. The quicker you get to the point and give them benefit, the more likely they will read and share your post.

Try a different medium

Facebook and Twitter are the most popular social networks, but that doesn’t mean they are correct for everyone. Perhaps, the audience you’re trying to connect with finds Facebook to be “too young” and Twitter to be “too chaotic” for them. Maybe, a full-length blog or LinkedIn is more their style. With a little research and a good intuition into the way your audience thinks and feels you should be able to find a medium that works.

You can also port your posts between different social networks. Try to expand your audience by sharing blog posts to Twitter and Facebook.

Why some blogs will never make money

DESCRIPTION:

I think if most bloggers are honest they’ll admit that at some point they want to make money from their site, to me this is true even when blogging starts as a hobby. After all it’s supposed to be easy to earn money with the internet if you have lots of readers/visitors? Well no not exactly, just because you have lots of traffic doesn’t mean it’s worth money, just look at YouTube.

it’s hard to believe but in my opinion there’s only one reason why most blogs will never make a return, its targeting. Most bloggers don’t really care where the majority of their traffic comes from but understanding visitor intent is the key to making money. For example if you have a general personal blog that covers your daily thoughts on everything from where to eat to that time your car broke down then there’s zero targeting. On the other hand say you had a blog covering a specific niche like “gaming laptops” then your targeted audience will be very valuable to advertisers. It may sound like an exaggeration but I’ll take the laptop blog with 200 readers over “Paul’s personal blog” with 10,000 any day. Even with all that traffic the general site will make less, next time you’re on a “general” blog look at the advertising and I’ll bet you see banners on everything from “home loans” to “floor cleaner”, they have no target audience and so have to shoot for everything.

So if you’re reading this and thinking you’re going to have to start all over again with a new blog then don’t worry. It’s perfectly possible to re-define the target audience of almost any blog while still writing about what you love. The key is to find the niche within your site that you can expand upon. For example if you’ve written a lot of restaurant reviews in the past consider focusing your entire blog on this subject. You may choose to take it further by concentrating on a specific type of food or even city. The key principle is you want to be the big fish in the little pond and not the other way around.

I suppose some people are reading this and thinking:

Why can’t I just write about whatever I want? I don’t want my blog to only be about one thing.

Well I’m definitely not saying you can’t, after all that’s what makes the internet great. But the point I am trying to make is that when it comes to making money at this game the rules are different than when it’s just for fun. All advertisers demand results and it’s only when you deliver that your hobby can turn into a living.

14 Ways to Make Money From A Blog

Make Money From A Blog

When I explain to people what it is I do online, the first question I always get is “How do you make money from a blog?” Not everyone is familiar with how advertising on the internet works, so their curiosity is expected.

What really shocks me though, is that there’s also a ton of bloggers who still don’t understand exactly how to make money from their own blog. They’re usually stuck using Adsense alone, wondering when pennies will turn to dollars. If you want to earn six figures (or more) from blogging, you need to diversify.

Here are a number of ways to make money from your blog (both directly and indirectly):

1. Pay Per Click - Joining a ppc network such as Google Adsense is probably one of the easiest ways to start off as a beginner. With Adsense, you can get started right away, with very little traffic. Once you get the ad code on your website, it’s pretty much automatic. Related advertisements are placed on your website, and you get paid everytime someone clicks on those ads. The amount per click varies, depending on a lot of factors (save that for another article).

Starting off, you’re not going to make much money with Adsense, but it’s always good to start somewhere, and watch your earnings grow with time.

2. Pay Per Impression - After you’ve built up a decent amount of traffic, you can start applying to site representation companys such as Tribal Fusion. They help to sell your ad inventory, and you’re paid based on the amount of impressions advertisers get on your site.

3. Affiliate Marketing - This involves selling other people’s products or services for a commission. The advantage of this is that you don’t need to come up with a unique product to sell. Instead, someone else takes care of that, and you simply use your leverage in the niche to promote the product. There are plenty of affiliate networks to join (Commission Junction for example). If you run a authority blog, chances are you’ll get quite a few offers to partner up and become an affiliate.

Commissions can run as high as 75%. However, the trick is understanding your audience, and promoting products that they find interesting. This not only makes you more money, but also keeps your readers coming back.

4. Direct Banner Advertising - An advertiser usually pays you a flat rate to place a banner on your website for a certain period of time (usually 30 days or more). This is the type of advertising that most bloggers aim for, as it is usually the highest paying when it comes to advertisements on the blog.

However, in order to get a potential advertiser’s attention, you need to have a decent amount of traffic coming in. Depending on the niche your blog targets, you should be getting around 30,000 to 100,000 unique visitors a month, before you even attempt to wheel and deal directly.

5. Reviews - Reviews work extremely well with a highly targeted audience. For example, if your blog is about music, a service that allows users to download music would be smart to purchase a review on your site. You can offer reviews direct, or you can sign up with a network such as ReviewMe.

It’s best to publish honest reviews, even if it isn’t necessarily a good one for your advertiser. Building trust with your readers is more important than making a quick buck. Just be sure that the advertiser is aware of how you handle reviews, before accepting payment.

Reviews are also a great way to score free stuff. A lot of times, companies will email you asking if you’d like to review a product of theirs. Sometimes you can arrange for them to send you free stuff, and even send extras to give away to your readers.

6. Plugs - Plugs work a lot like reviews do. The main difference is that the advertiser writes the article (or snippet). Very few blogs are interested in selling plugs, as it allows the advertisers to publish a lot of exaggerated hype.

7. Text Links - Text links can be sold directly just as banners can be. Advertisers usually pay a flat rate to place a text link on the sidebar of your blog. Make sure that the advertisers are aware that you’re selling the ad space, and not Pagerank juice. Google penalizes websites that sell dofollow text links.

You can also sell in-text advertising. Just sign up for a network that offers this service, install the code on your blog, and then the system automatically takes words from your posts, and links them to related advertisements. For example, it might link the word “car” to an advertisement sponsored by cars.com.

8. Sell Your Own Products - Ebooks, t-shirts, stationery, coffee cups…the list goes on and on. Get creative – don’t just slap your logo on a t-shirt. Come up with a funny line, or place a stunning graphic on the shirt so that people will actually purchase and wear it (free advertising anyone?).

9. Publish A Book - A lot of popular bloggers are getting book deals these days, and for good reason. Popular bloggers are writing articles that people want to read. Whether it’s to inform, educate, or entertain, a popular blog is likely to become a popular book. There’s a lot of money to be made here.

You don’t have to be famous though. You can easily self publish your own book, and sell it through your blog. The profit margins aren’t as large, but you can still make a decent amount of money, assuming people are willing to purchase your book.

10. Memberships - Memberships are an excellent way to create a residual income. The challenge however, is creating a membership program that is valuable to the members. Valuable enough to keep them coming back for more, month after month.

You could offer something such as custom avatars on your site for a very small monthly fee, or you might create a massive training program that teaches something to your readers, for a very large monthly fee. The options are limitless, but you need to find out what your readers are willing to pay for.

11. Job Board - With a job board, you basically charge advertisers to post a job description in which they need someone to fulfill. If you’re a well known problogger who educates other bloggers, people might come to your job board to look for talented bloggers/writers.

If you find that your blog becomes sort of the central hub in your niche, it might be time to start a job board. Even if your blog hasn’t quite taken off yet, if you think that there’s a need for services related to what you write about, a job board could actually bring attention to your site. Just keep in mind, a job board is like a forum. If it’s obvious that nobody is participating in the community, then there isn’t any motivation for anyone else to begin participating.

If you’re using WordPress, your best solution would most likely be the JobPress theme, which offers most, if not all of the features you will need to make money with job boards.

12. Consultations - Consultations can be a huge money maker. If you’re confident with what you have to offer, and you’ve proven to readers that you’re an authority in your niche, $100-500 an hour isn’t unheard of. Of course, you’re going to want to start off at a lower price point.

This will allow you to get a feel for the demand of your services. It will also allow you to practice and polish your presentation, while finding out exactly what your clients want from a consultation.

13. Donations - Very few bloggers succeed in making donations work, but there are a few that have. If you’re eager to try, all you need to do is place a Paypal donation widget on your blog, and hope that your visitors are feeling generous. Some bloggers even go as far as to ask for donations in their posts.

Be careful though – many see this as begging. Producing great content that is free, being in a niche that tends to attract wealthy visitors, or having close relationships with your readers will all help to increase your chances of getting donations.

One method that I personally feel would work best, is to ask for donations towards something that would benefit both you and your readers. For example, you could try using the ChipIn widget, in an attempt to raise funds for a new blog design. If you provide quality content for your readers, then they may be more than willing to contribute to a blog that they visit regularly.

14. Build Your Brand - How do you make money blogging? Brand yourself and/or your company. As you build your brand and gain leverage, your blog will gradually become a reference for others who are interested in what you write about. You will begin to notice more and more opportunities that come along, simply because of your reputation for being an expert in your niche.

Whether it’s getting paid to give public speeches, becoming a guest blogger on other websites, or doing a joint venture with another entrepreneur – building your brand with a blog will help to increase your income…sometimes exponentially.

5 Tips For A New Blog

5 Tips

As many have started blogging these days I would love to share a few tips for those who are very new in the blogging world. These tips will help them start their blog with a bang and rock from very beginning!

So here I begin…

1.) Introduce Yourself And Your Blog

Your first blog post should always be your introduction, your blog’s introduction, etc. In this first post tell the people about your blog topic, topics on which you will write in your blog, your plans for blog’s future, your experience if any, etc. If you own some other blog too, don’t forget to mention it in the introduction post!

2.) Start Commenting On Other Blogs

This is one to get free traffic and it works for new blogs. When Blogging Junction was new I regularly commented on other blogs. Not only did it give me back links, but also free traffic. So start commenting from day one. Read the post titled CommentLuv Enabled Blogs to know some blogs where you can start commenting for getting backlinks and traffic. Also read the post titled Leave Comments On Other Blogs, to know more about blog commenting.

3.) Start Tweeting, Sharing On FaceBook. In Short Social Bookmarking!

Tweeting may help you get a lot of visitors. Also sharing your posts on Stumbleupon, Digg, etc. will help you drive visitors to your blog. Do all this from day one!

4.) Holding A Contest Is A Great Way To Start A New Blog

If you’ve started a new blog, a great way to get new visitors and make them participate in your blog activities is to hold a contest! Holding a contest will bring you many new visitors and will also make them participate in your blog activities like guest posting, commenting, tweeting, etc. So do keep a contest when you start your new blog!

5.) Start Networking With Other Bloggers

A new blog needs promotion, well wishers and supporters. Without any of them a new blog can’t function properly. So start networking with other bloggers from day one. I suggest targeting new bloggers or bloggers who haven’t been in the blogging field for quite long as they might have time to spend for answering your queries and to help you with blogging. (You can network with me)

That doesn’t mean you leave other blogging gurus! Also follow them and ask them for suggestions.

That was it for this post! Get back to you with a new post soon!

Know The Rhythm Of Your Blog

Rhythm Of Your Blog

When you start your blog you may have no conception of how long you're going to be doing this for or the time and effort that it is going to take on your part, but when you become a seasoned blogger, you'll be able to look back (and look forward) and see your personal seasonal rhythms with your blog.

We all have our ups and downs and habits that we get into, and our blogs will reflect that over time. Right now, it's getting into fall, and for a a lot of people summer is one of two extremes - it is either the time where you're lazy and don't maintain your blog as much, or you're coasting along with your blog because everyone is engaged and involved. After this, you're going to have to make one transition or another - either get more involved with your blog and write more or expect less involvement from your audience. Or you're one of those lucky few that get consistent involvement year round - know I strongly dislike you.

For those who are just starting - know that you will likely get into routines in different seasons (the weather may not correlate...but it will happen.) Blogs have life cycles and phases just as a business does. You'll probably get into a winter funk, and there will be some bumps and scrapes along the way - balancing life, work and blog isn't always easy.

As I said, your seasons may not match what you're seeing outside of the window, but you really should take note of what kind of life cycle your blog has, where the ups and downs and peaks and valleys usually occur. If you don't notice these things, your blog could become completely stale or irrelevant without you noticing. Years will run by you, and your blog hasn't grown or evolved at all. Maybe you don't get to know your audience, or haven't don't any kind of SEO, but SEO is a whole 'nother topic.

Just as a fact of life in the real-world seasons of Fall and Winter, you will be faced with a lot more holidays - from Halloween to Christmas. You'll need to decide to what degree you're going to want to share your personal experiences of the holidays, or the ways in which you're going to allow the holidays you do (or don't) celebrate color your content.

Winter

The winter of your blog is a test of discipline. Long days and little to show, at this point you're just trying to get through your posting schedule. You don't have the heart to start any new promotions or launch any new projects. You just slog through the mud and keep on keepin' on. Do you have the devotion to really keep doing this blog? Your winter is your benchmark.

Spring

Spring - buds are blooming, birds are chirping, the sun is shining. In short, things are looking better. You've got new subscribers or maybe you just got pitched a great promotional deal, but things are going so much better than they were. Whatever is making you excited about your blog again, you're posting so much more and are engaged and active, riding on cloud 9.

Summer

As I've mentioned earlier, the summer of your blog (which likely corresponds to the actual season) can be one of two things. Either you're hot and lazy and kind of abandon ship with your blog, posting less frequently, engaging less often, or you're continuing the high of summer and you could almost be on vacation because things with your blog are evolving so naturally and everything is going so easily.

Fall

The fall of your blog is the time that you need to take to analyze your blog. Do you need a new design? (Do you want a new design?) Do you need to reach out to a different audience? Guest post somewhere? Start in on a new topic or a new angle? Fall is the time to ask those questions, and figure out what is going on a bit deeper with your blog - figure out how to grow it, how to nurture it.

Don't forget your blog is a reflection of you, and you go through cycles and rhythms. Follow them, understand them. Don't try and fight them or get frustrated with it. Ups and downs happen with everything. Keep in mind the larger picture of you and your blog and how they fit together - and a big part of that is identifying and acknowledging the rhythms that your blog goes through.

Top 10 Tips for New Bloggers

Top 10 Tips for New Bloggers From Original Blogger Jorn Barger

My intent for weblogs in 1997 was to make the web as a whole more transparent, via a sort of "mesh network," where each weblog amplifies just those signals (or links) its author likes best. 1998-1999 was for me the Golden Age of Weblogs, when the following principles were widely understood:

1. A true weblog is a log of all the URLs you want to save or share. (So del.icio.us is actually better for blogging than blogger.com.)

2. You can certainly include links to your original thoughts, posted elsewhere … but if you have more original posts than links, you probably need to learn some humility.

3. If you spend a little time searching before you post, you can probably find your idea well articulated elsewhere already.

4. Being truly yourself is always hipper than suppressing a link just because it's not trendy enough. Your readers need to get to know you.

5. You can always improve on the author's own page title, when describing a link. (At least make sure your description is full enough that readers will recognize any pages they've already visited, without having to visit them again.)

6. Always include some adjective describing your own reaction to the linked page (great, useful, imaginative, clever, etc.)

7. Credit the source that led you to it, so your readers have the option of "moving upstream."

8. Warn about "gotchas" -- weird formatting, multipage stories, extra-long files, etc. Don't camouflage the main link among unneeded (or poorly labeled) auxiliary links.

9. Pick some favorite authors or celebrities and create a Google News feed that tracks new mentions of them, so other fans can follow them via your weblog.

10. Re-post your favorite links from time to time, for people who missed them the first time.

How to Find Free Pictures for Your Blog

Adding visual interest in the form of images is a widely-used method for attracting readers to blog articles. If you’re holding back from spicing up your blog for fear of cost or (gasp) copyright infringement, here’s some advice to get you informed and comfortable with posting images

Daily Blog Tips Guest Post Guidelines

I get many emails from people who want to know if I accept guest posts on Daily Blog Tips, and if that is the case, what are the guidelines. I figured that it would be easier to write the guidelines in a post and just refer every one here.

So the answer to the first question is: Yes, I do accept guest posts. Currently I publish two guest posts per week, usually on Mondays and Wednesdays. Below you will find all the details about the process.
What kind of content do you accept?

Anything that is useful for my readers is good content for a guest post here. It can be related to blogging, Internet marketing in general, and it can also be derived from your own personal experiences. There is no minimum length for your post, but usually the guest posts have over 400 words.

General Guidelines

Your post must be original and must have never been published before on the Internet
You agree to not publish the post anywhere else (i.e., in your own blog or as a guest post in other blogs)
You can include one link in the byline, which will be displayed at the bottom of the post
Formatting Guidelines
Please format your guest post as an HTML document, so that I can copy and paste it into the WordPress HTML editor.
Use H2 or H4 tags for sub-headings.
Make sure to include the author byline at the bottom, with the link to your website already formatted (do not spam keywords there, though).
Submission Guidelines

I check and respond to all guest post submissions twice a month, so it might take up to two weeks before I get back to you. This doesn’t mean I have rejected your post though, and even in case of rejection you should get an answer from me, explaining the reason.

Get to Know the Terminology

Unless explicitly noted, any image you find on the internet could be copyrighted, which means you could be held liable for copyright infringement. Are you up for taking that chance? Those of us who prefer to stay legal will typically be looking for images with some form of a Creative Commons license. This license is less restrictive than the traditional “all rights reserved” copyright (to varying degrees).
Where to Find Free, Quality Images

Some of the best places to find free stock images:

1. Everystockphoto

This site describes itself as a “license-specific photo search engine.” It searches many of the popular free stock photo sources and allows you restrict results based on a variety of parameters, including account requirement, shape, resolution, and license.

2. Flickr’s Creative Commons Search

This social image-sharing site has gained a reputation for harboring high-quality free photos. Search through the Creative Commons section or use the advanced search feature to specify a search within the Creative Commons-licensed content, plus you can identify whether you’re looking for content that can be edited or used commercially.

3. Stock.xchng

As discussed earlier, there are plenty of images on this site with more lax licensing that doesn’t require attribution. However, you’ve got to watch out for the much higher quality, payment-requiring iStockphoto thumbnails that get posted alongside the free stock.xchng results.

4. 123rf

If you’re just looking for something small, stock photography site 123rf offers many of its small-sized (think 400px at the longest side) images for free. Just search their free images section, found under the Stock Photography header on the home page (or by clicking their link above).

5. Google Creative Commons Image Search

Of course, if there’s a searching need, Google has a tool for it. Within their existing image search, Google added a usage rights parameter to their advanced image search. Here, you can specify whether the image should carry a license that allows reuse, commercial use, and/or modification.

One Final Thought

Now that you’re equipped to find images legally and without charge, here’s one last consideration: why not try creating your own images? Original photography and graphics can add value to your blog and make it appear more personal. While stock photos are a great option, especially in a pinch, don’t rule out the idea of adding non-canned images to your next post. Challenge yourself to come up with your own pictures depicting your product, service, or company; and guess what? It’s license-free!
